As the new year begins most of us will see a property tax bill come our way. In Hamilton County the tax bills will be mailed on 1/7/2013 and are due on 1/31/2013. If you escrow your property tax with your mortgage, you should get a notice that the bank has paid your taxes. Remember that this month you are paying the tax bill for January 1 – June 31 2012.
It is always a good idea to take the following steps when you get your property tax bill:
- Make sure that if you are escrowing your taxes that your mortgage services is collecting enough from you each month. They will send what they have collected, and if it is less than you owe you as the homeowner are responsible for the difference.
- Look at the home value the County is using for your taxes. It may have gone up or down since most counties re-assess properties very three years. Does it look high or low? Remember you can always appeal the assessed value of your home and I can help you! Just

- Make sure that your homeowner’s insurance policy is current. It is always a good idea to make sure your home is insured for its true value … just in case.
